Parent Workshop

Identifying Your Child's Behavioral and Emotional Triggers & Building an Emotional Toolbox

Wednesday, April 19
1:00-2:00 pm
Intensive Education Academy

Presenters: Adina Ciobotaru & Amanda Dyl, IEA School Psychologists

"Unpredictable.” “Random.” “Explosive.” That’s how some parents of kids with disabilities would describe how their child reacts to everyday struggles. Many parents can feel mystified by their child’s behavior. They can feel like they are walking through a minefield at home—where something, anything, could set their child off at any moment. This is an incredibly difficult feeling for parents to deal with, and many feel at a loss about how to navigate these situation. However, it is possible to turn things around.

In this workshop, we will explore what triggers are, identify our own triggers as individuals and/or parents, and learn how to recognize your child's triggers. We'll also discuss how to develop your child's self-awareness regarding his or her own triggers and how to build a toolbox of strategies to support your child at home.

Target audience: Parents of children (with or without disabilities) who are having behavioral difficulties at home or in the community.
